I’m Ashley. I am so glad that you are here, it is the first and hardest step taken on the path of healing. To some extent, we all have experienced shame, guilt, doubt, anger and sadness. It is difficult to deal with these feelings alone, yet we often do out of fear of judgement. The relationship between client and counsellor is a truly special relationship which is based on non-judgement, transparency and genuine connection. Unfortunately, with the rise of the medical focus within the mental health field the crucial aspect of counselling – the strength of the client-counsellor relationship is often lost. Many clients report feeling a distance and disconnect with their counsellor as if their counsellor is not seeing them for who they are.
Did you know that all approaches to counselling have a similar outcome, yet they all use different theory and methods? This is because change occurs as a result of experiencing a genuine supportive relationship with a counsellor who combines knowledge, experience and the individual’s unique situation into a manageable and guided process of healing. The healing properties of a good client-counsellor relationship are magical.
I too had to walk a path of healing. The client-counsellor relationship that I experienced supported my healing in ways I could never have thought possible. I learned the theoretical knowledge at university but only believed in the process once I had experienced it myself. Then I started to see the process unfold for my clients. I know that change is possible I have been there – and nothing brings me greater joy than seeing others heal and find their way. Whatever the direction of the path, as your counsellor I will walk with you and fight for you no matter how treacherous the journey may feel.
IN THE WILDERNESS AND GARDEN ROUTE
The counselling services in the wilderness and garden route process involves exploring various aspects of one’s life to understand what may be contributing to distress. For this reason, effective counselling addresses all areas of life, holistically. I welcome anyone that feels counselling may assist them no matter the area of concern. However, if you feel you would prefer to see someone who has experience with your main concern, have a look below at the areas I have expertise in.
